On May 17, 1985, Les Anderson established the All-Tackle World Record for Chinook salmon while drifting the Kenai River in Alaska. He successfully enticed the monster salmon, also known as a king salmon, using a spin glow lure. After a 40-minute fight, Anderson landed the record fish, which weighed 44.11 kilograms (97 pounds, 4 ounces). This legendary catch remains the heaviest salmon ever recorded by the IGFA.
