Using a small prop in the foreground can challenge a viewer's depth perception and normal sense of scale. Bringing a friend along to act as a model or provide a second set of eyes makes coordinating these shots much easier. After capturing the photo, you can experiment with digital filters to alter the colors or desaturate the image entirely. Removing colors to leave shades of black and white is a common way to change the photo's mood.
