On March 13, 1986, Del Brown landed an incredible 18.82-kilogram (41-pound, 8-ounce) permit on an 8-pound fly tippet in Key West, Florida. Fishing on the pristine flats with legendary guide Captain Steve Huff, Brown battled the fish for 1 hour and 3 minutes. This remarkable catch smashed Brown's previous record, set just two days prior, by 9.24 kilograms (20 pounds, 6 ounces). Captain Huff is celebrated as both an IGFA Hall of Famer and a Tommy Gifford Award winner.
