On July 9, 1988, Raymond Houtmans set the IGFA All-Tackle World Record by landing a 44-kilogram (97-pound) giant tigerfish. He was fishing the Zaire River in Kinshasa, Zaire, which is now known as the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Following a 65-minute battle, Houtmans successfully landed the fish after it took his bait. This impressive catch added to his existing reputation and repertoire of giant tigerfish records.
